"With her artistic excellence, stylistic versatility and expertise,
her pedagogical qualifications, her further studies in an academic context
and her wonderfully positive, communicative charisma,
Jinhee Kim is an outstanding representative of the next generation of guitarists."
Michael Hampel
Guitarist Jinhee Kim, who Slava Grigoryan defined as "a rising star in the classical music scene", has entered the limelight with her sensitive, powerful and deep way of playing. In 2018, she received the top prize at the 2018 Maurizio Biasini International Guitar Competition in Paris, the 2nd Prize with the Audience Prize at the Ruggero Chiesa Competition in Italy and 2nd Prize at Pleven Guitar Competition in Bulgaria, performed Maurice Ohana’s guitar concerto with Basel Symphony Orchestra, and played at the Luzern Guitar Festival. She began to gain attention as a next-generation performer already in 2010, when she won the first prize at the Adelaide International Guitar Competition in Australia.
She studied with maestro Pablo Márquez at Hochschule für Musik Basel and has graduated with the highest mark in two graduate concerts of Master Performance and Master Musikpädagogik. She enhanced her musical interpretation by taking a minor in early music for two years with Peter Croton, lutenist and the president of the German Lute Society at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. At the same time, she has also developed an understanding of contemporary music by taking part in a performance of “Ryoanji" by John Cage, Theater Basel's “Fauvel" and Tobias Krebs's "lumi unelma" premiere for guitar & cello.
Her interest in contemporary music led her to explore ensemble possibilities. She is currently a member of the HOAX Quartet, which she founded with Damiano Pisanello, Tobias Krebs and Agustin Nazzetta in 2017. Their sense of interpretation for contemporary music has already been recognised and given credit. They perform extensive modern music repertoire for guitar including works by Vinko Globokar, Steve Reich and Michel Roth. Furthermore she is also a member of ÉRMA Ensemble in Köln.
In Korea, she was selected as a "Rising Star" (2013), "Young Artist" (2011) and "Prodigy" (2006) by the Kumho Foundation. In addition, the live performance of “Rising Star” recital was broadcasted by KBS Radio Classic. She has also appeared on the KBS 1TV “Classic Odyssey” with the recorder player, Minsuk Kwon. In addition, she has performed at gala concerts of Yeongju International Guitar Festival, Japan Shonai International Guitar Festival, concerts with “Alte Musik Seoul”, “Wednesday Concert Series” by Daejeon cityhall, and various other solo and ensemble concerts.
Jinhee, born in Seoul, Korea in 1992, is currently living in Basel and teaching as the new classical guitar professor at Hochschule für Musik Trossingen in Germany. For her further interests in teaching, she's doing CAS Musikphysiologie program at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste.

"Jinhee Kim is a very clever and talented musician
with great skills, the most exquisite sensitivity and an incredible working capacity.
Her remarkable flexibility allows her the widest repertoire,
that goes from De Rippe and Kapsberger to the most intricate contemporary pieces such as Rolf Riehm’s milestone Orpheus Toccata."

"Jinhee Kim has a special capacity to touch audiences with her heartfelt performances and sensitivity to the music and her instrument.
Her dazzling virtuosity is always at the service of the music,
and only serves to strengthen the human bond between her and the listener.
She is about the music; living with it, expressing it, and sharing it in a way that communicates the passions therein and elevates the lives of her listeners."
Peter Croton
